Who is in the Epstein files?
Who is in the Epstein files? The list of some of the world's most rich and powerful people with ties to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has lengthened with the latest US government release of millions of new files from its investigation into the disgraced financier. The 30 January drop of new material - dubbed the Epstein files - included three million pages, 180,000 images, 2,000 videos, and a number of household names like Richard Branson, Bill Gates and Elon Musk. There is no suggestion that appearing in the documents implies any wrongdoing, and many people who have featured in previous releases have denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein. The release came weeks after the deadline set by the Epstein Files Transparency Act which was signed into law by US President Donald Trump in November and required a full release of all Epstein-related documents.

Thousands of Epstein documents taken down after victims identified
The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has removed thousands of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein from its website after victims said their identities had been compromised. Lawyers for Epstein's victims said flawed redactions in the files released on Friday had turned upside down the lives of nearly 100 survivors. Email addresses and nude photos in which the names and faces of potential victims could be identified were included in the release. Survivors issued a statement calling the disclosure outrageous and said they should not be named, scrutinized and retraumatized. The DOJ said it had taken down all the flagged files and that mistakes were due to technical or human error.

Epstein Files Reveal Peter Thiel's Elaborate Dietary Restrictions
The latest batch of Jeffrey Epstein files shed light on the convicted sex offender's ties to Silicon Valley--and Peter Thiel's exacting approach to food. Peter Thiel--the billionaire venture capitalist, PayPal, and Palantir cofounder, and outspoken commentator on all matters relating to the "Antichrist"--appears at least 2,200 times in the latest batch of files released by the Department of Justice related to convicted sex offender and disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein . The tranche of records demonstrate how Epstein managed to cultivate an extensive network of wealthy and influential figures in Silicon Valley. A number of them, including Thiel, continued to interact with Epstein even after his 2008 guilty plea for solicitation of prostitution and of procurement of minors to engage in prostitution. The new files show that Thiel arranged to meet with Epstein several times between 2014 and 2017.

Security News This Week: Jeffrey Epstein Had a'Personal Hacker,' Informant Claims Plus: AI agent OpenClaw gives cybersecurity experts the willies, China executes 11 scam compound bosses, a $40 million crypto theft has an unexpected alleged culprit, and more. As the standoff between the United States government and Minnesota continues this week over immigration enforcement operations that have essentially occupied the Twin Cities and other parts of the state, a federal judge delayed a decision this week and ordered a new briefing on whether the Department of Homeland Security is using armed raids to pressure Minnesota into abandoning its sanctuary policies for immigrants. Meanwhile, minutes after a federal immigration officer shot and killed 37-year-old Alex Pretti in Minneapolis last Saturday, Trump administration officials and right-wing influencers had already mounted a smear campaign, calling Pretti a "terrorist" and a "lunatic ." As part of its surveillance dragnet, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been using an AI-powered Palantir system since last spring to summarize tips sent to its tip line, according to a newly released Homeland Security document. DHS immigration agents have also been using the now notorious face recognition app Mobile Fortify to scan the faces of countless people in the US--including many citizens .

And who better to do that with than Brian Barrett, our executive editor who works tirelessly in the shadows? Thank you for having me. Happy to emerge from my shadowy lair. What a year it's been, and I'm so excited for it to be almost over. Because it's been quite a year news-wise, safe to say, especially in tech and politics. Honestly, it was a little bit tricky to pick which trends we should discuss today, but we settled on five stories that kind of encapsulate this year pretty well, and I think give us clues as to what is going to be unfolding in 2026. The first one that I want to talk about is dear to my heart, and it's about AI data centers. So we all know that the investment, the amount of money being spent on data centers is absolutely staggering, with companies like Meta, Google, and Microsoft tripling down on AI infrastructure spending this year. But it's not just about the money that's being spent.

OpenAI Locks Down San Francisco Offices Following Alleged Threat From Activist
A message on OpenAI's internal Slack claimed the activist in question had expressed interest in "causing physical harm to OpenAI employees." OpenAI employees in San Francisco were told to stay inside the office on Friday afternoon after the company purportedly received a threat from an individual who was previously associated with the Stop AI activist group. "Our information indicates that [name] from StopAI has expressed interest in causing physical harm to OpenAI employees," a member of the internal communications team wrote on Slack. "He has previously been on site at our San Francisco facilities." Just before 11 am, San Francisco police received a 911 call about a man allegedly making threats and intending to harm others at 550 Terry Francois Boulevard, which is near OpenAI's offices in the Mission Bay neighborhood, according to data tracked by the crime app Citizen.
